Eyes swing upwards on arrival at Amber, attracted by the uniquely dramatic chandelier of 4,320 bronze rods suspended above the refined dining room located on the seventh floor of The Landmark Mandarin Oriental. International design maverick Adam Tihany blends that warm metallic glow with Australian walnut window louvers that allow Hong Kong’s natural sunlight to illuminate the double height interior furnished with custom Tihany Design tables and chairs of Macassar ebony.
At night, the artful ceiling radiates a gilded halo over the restaurant’s rich spectrum from amber to russet. Tihany explains the natural hues “create a receding backdrop of simple elegance to allow the cuisine and the enjoying of our partner or guest to be the most important focus of the dining experience.”
Intimate evenings should be spent in one of two private dining rooms surrounded by glass walls featuring the restaurant’s discerning 3,000-bottle vintage wine collection from around the world.
